I run errands in the morning and try and limit them to 2 "stops". When my first child was an only we got a sandbox and he would play for long long stretches alone while I sat nearby. I try not to fall into the trap of being the sole source of entertainment and instead think of myself as a cruise director - I point to activities (even it it's building a fort in the living room) and let him/them run with it. When my younger naps the older and I will do puzzles together or play a game or two. I do pull out play dough or other activities throughout the day and step back to let them play alone. When they aren't playing together I encourage them to play solo. I don't sit on the floor and play with them all day. When I'm preparing meals, they participate - even if it's just stirring 2-3 times. We also go for a walk most mornings when it's not too hot.
